Dallas, Texas — A tense confrontation in downtown Dallas, Texas, ended in the fatal shooting of Mike King, a private security contractor who had previously worked as part of the security detail for U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett, according to law enforcement sources.
Authorities reported that the incident began when officers attempted to detain Mike King, who was reportedly wanted on charges related to impersonating a law enforcement officer. The attempted arrest led to a standoff that unfolded inside a parking garage at Children’s Health hospital in downtown Dallas.
According to police reports, Mike King drove into the parking structure while operating what investigators described as a replica undercover police-style vehicle. The vehicle allegedly contained equipment designed to resemble official police features and was reportedly displaying license plates that had been stolen from vehicles parked outside a military recruiting office, investigators said.
When officers attempted to approach him, Mike King allegedly refused commands to surrender and barricaded himself inside the vehicle. Dallas police called in a SWAT team to assist with the situation after negotiations failed to resolve the standoff.
Authorities said officers deployed tear gas in an effort to force Mike King out of the vehicle. However, according to investigators, when he emerged, he allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it toward officers, prompting SWAT officers to open fire. Mike King was pronounced dead at the scene.
Law enforcement officials said Mike King had been wanted in connection with impersonating a police officer. Investigators also stated that he had operated a business called “Off Duty Police Services,” an online platform that reportedly connected off-duty police officers in North Texas with private security work.
Authorities allege that Mike King falsely presented himself as a certified law enforcement officer while running the business. Investigators also indicated that he used multiple aliases, and they have not publicly confirmed his true legal identity.
Records reviewed by investigators show that Mike King had provided security services at a variety of locations in the Dallas area, including downtown hotels, a local church, and public events. Campaign finance records reportedly show payments made to Mike King for security services linked to Representative Jasmine Crockett as recently as 2025.
Photos from campaign events and public appearances previously showed Mike King standing near Rep. Jasmine Crockett, which has prompted questions from some observers about how an individual with an active warrant was able to secure high-level private security work.
The office of Representative Jasmine Crockett has not issued a detailed public statement regarding the incident, and Dallas Police Department officials have also declined to comment further while the case remains under investigation.
Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the standoff, including Mike King’s alleged impersonation activities, the use of a police-style vehicle, and the sequence of events that led to the fatal confrontation with the Dallas SWAT team.
