According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal incident occurred on February 27, 2026, when Emily Panuco had traveled to California to visit a relative who had recently welcomed a litter of puppies on the property.
Investigators reported that Emily Panuco’s five-year-old son approached the puppies to pet them.
At that moment, three adult dogs present on the property — including the mother of the puppies — suddenly became aggressive and moved toward the child.
Authorities say Emily Panuco immediately intervened, placing herself between the animals and her son in an effort to protect him.
