Tensions remained high in Minneapolis over the weekend as protesters again clashed with law enforcement following a second federal officer–involved shooting in about a week, deepening scrutiny of immigration enforcement and use-of-force policies.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, a federal law enforcement officer shot an individual on Wednesday after the person allegedly fled a traffic stop and, together with two others, attacked the officer.
DHS said the incident is under investigation and did not release the names of those involved.
The confrontation came days after the January 7 fatal shooting of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother who was killed by an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during an enforcement operation.
Federal officials have maintained that Good attempted to run over officers with her vehicle, prompting the agent to fire.
That account has been disputed by Minnesota officials and eyewitnesses, and it continues to fuel protests across the city.
As demonstrations expanded, arrests were reported in connection with protests at a local church, including the detention of a civil rights attorney and activist.
Meanwhile, an appeals court temporarily lifted restrictions affecting ICE’s use of force against protesters, a move that further intensified debate among community leaders and civil liberties groups.
Late Monday, the law firm Romanucci & Blandin, which represents Good’s family, released preliminary findings from an independent autopsy.
The firm reported that Good sustained three distinct gunshot wound paths: one to the left forearm causing soft tissue damage and hemorrhage.
One that traversed the right breast without penetrating major internal organs; and a fatal wound that entered the left side of her head near the temple and exited the right side.
The firm also noted a superficial graze wound. According to the summary, the forearm and breast wounds were not immediately life-threatening.
The firm said the official autopsy by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet been released to the family or their legal team.
Community leaders say the back-to-back incidents have eroded trust and heightened calls for transparency, independent oversight, and clear accountability standards when federal officers use deadly force.
Protests are expected to continue as investigations proceed and additional findings are made public.
